As Running With Dogs Australia gears up for Adventure Dog, we chatted with Natalie, the Founder of Running With Dogs Australia, to delve into what makes this event truly special.

Natalie shared that Adventure Dog was a natural choice for their fundraising activity, as it encompasses everything their members adore: “Dogs, running, a physical challenge, and raising money for animals in need.”

Adventure Dog provides a unique opportunity for participants to bond with their furry companions while making a positive impact.

Reflecting on the most memorable part of Adventure Dog, Natalie reminisced about the camaraderie and laughter shared among participants and their dogs.

“The mud and water challenges in particular make for some hilarious moments,” she shared. “We help each other at these stages, but we’re also in fits of laughter because there’s usually a person or two slipping over and ending up in the mud or at least covered in it.”

Preparing for Adventure Dog involves regular running sessions with their dogs to ensure both are physically ready for the challenge. However, Natalie emphasises that the event is inclusive, welcoming participants of all fitness levels and socialised dogs.

“With that said, plenty of our members tackle the course at their own pace,” she notes, “so as long as you have a healthy and well-socialised dog, I feel anyone can join this challenge and have a great time.”

Describing the atmosphere during Adventure Dog, Natalie paints a vivid picture of electrifying energy.

“The dogs are generally happily barking and pulling us along to get to the next obstacle with excitement,” she describes, “and all you can hear is people’s laughter accompanied by huge smiles.” It’s a celebration of the bond between humans and animals, where everyone shares in the excitement and camaraderie.

Looking ahead, Natalie offers valuable advice to new participants and teams considering joining the adventure.

“Be prepared to get down and dirty and embrace the fun,” she advises. “Perhaps don’t wear white! Consider a change of clothes and shoes and bring ample towels for yourself and your dog.”

With vendors offering various amenities and goodies, arriving early to explore the offerings is a wise move. “Most of all, enjoy the day and take the course at your and your dog’s own pace,” Natalie concludes.

“There’s no way you won’t reach that finishing line without a huge smile across your face.”

Adventure Dog isn’t just an event; it’s an unforgettable journey filled with laughter, challenges, and cherished moments with furry companions.
