Coco Pops and Texas Pete

When tiny kittens find their way to us without their mother it takes around-the-clock care to keep them alive. Brother and sister, Texas Pete & Coco Pops arrived at 2.5 weeks old, weighing only 220 grams. These youngsters required on demand bottle feeding every 2 hours day and night to keep them alive. Due to their fragile state they nearly didn’t make it.

With several sleepless nights from our committed staff Tex and Coco Pops pulled through and are now strong, healthy and happy in a very loving home together.

You can play a vital role to save more animals like Coco-Pops and Texas Pete by making a donation of $35 or more today.

From day one these two adorable kitties have made themselves totally at home. They are so attached to each other that a photo without the other is impossible to get. They spend all day playing and snuggling up for naps in between. They are the most affectionate kitties I have ever had, you cannot sit down for 5 mins without them both jumping up for cuddles. I cannot thank Animal  Aid enough for letting me adopt them both.

Texas Pete and Coco Pops

Cattery Manager, Lynn Bell was about to enjoy some well-earned annual leave when two tiny kittens arrived at the Coldstream Cattery; her planned holidays quickly became round-the-clock kitten care.

It takes an experienced foster carer, prepared to be available at all times to care for kittens this small. Kittens as young as these two require 24/7 care and bottle feeding, it’s no easy job. Even so, bottle fed kittens sadly have only a 20% survival rate. These kittens were to test Lynn’s many years of experience on more than one occasion!

A very long night ensued. Sleeplessly and ceaselessly, Lynn bottle fed Texas Pete drop by drop to keep him hydrated. It’s a delicate process, and at times a juggling act, as when one kitten seemed to be improving the other one would crash.

The kittens battled on and after a visit to the Animal Aid Vet Clinic for some additional hydration and with more intensive care from Lynn the kittens finally turned the corner.

Thanks to the dedication of Lynn both kittens are now happy and healthy in the loving home of Sarah, Animal Aid Volunteer.

Animal Aid Staff and volunteers go to extraordinary lengths, to help animals in need, without the dedication, knowledge and tenacity shown, Texas Pete and Coco Pops would not have survived.
