Meet Joey

Joe came to Animal Aid in such desperately poor condition. He had endured so much and needless to say, it was touch and go! Joe was suffering from numerous health issues due to his poor condition including skin irritations, fleas and worms. With medical treatment, love and care from our team Joe increased his body weight by 1/3 and is now enjoying his new home feeling healthy and very much loved.

You can play a vital role to save more animals like Joey by making a donation of $35 or more today.

Joe, you came to me in a time of grief after losing my best friend of 16 years. It is amazing how one animal an bring so much unconditional love, especially in the form of a big black greyhound!!!!  You are loyal, friendly, adventurous, lazy and a complete Casanova where ladies are concerned!!  I know you won’t be with me forever Joe, but you have already given me more than a lifetime of love, fun, goofyness and company!  Thank you Joe.

Joe's New Human

Being a previous owner and definite admirer of sight hounds, my head cannot helped but be turned when they come into the shelter.

Unfortunately for Joey, your head was turned for a very different reason. He was terribly underweight. Not only this, but Joe appeared empty…No life, no fire, no personality, just a shell of a dog.

When the Welfare Team team asked if I would care for him in my office during the day. To get to know him better and to understand more completely the state of his health. Joey spent 6 weeks with me as the Animal Aid Vet Team addressed several of his health concerns.

Little by little I could see the light coming back on inside him. I could see him thinking that life may actually be worth living. Joey went from sleeping all day, to picking up and investigating the toys on offer, to deciding that he in fact adored toys, particularly the squeaky type. He ended up selecting his favourite, a green Monstargh toy and would squeak it incessantly with sheer delight. Joey had become a real character, he was constantly showing his gorgeous personality and relishing in his new health, energy and happiness. Joey wanted to keep living his life. The time I got to spend with this beautiful, gentle dog was a real privilege.

Was I tempted to adopt him? You bet I was! However, when i met the lovely woman who was adopting him I was so glad. It was absolutely a match made in heaven!

Now Joey is a truly loved dog, just as he always deserved to be…
