You can give animals a safe place to sleep and the comfort they crave this winter.
If your household is anything like mine, you may be on the couch reading this letter, surrounded by your precious pets. Look at them – what are they telling you? Are they excited, content or maybe asleep? They are safe, cared for and loved.

For many animals that arrive at Animal Aid this is not their story. Some have never known love, never had a full belly, lived without pain, or enjoyed the affection of an adoring family.
Others find themselves struggling to adjust to a new way of life. I can’t help but put myself in their shoes; imagine having had a family you’ve loved, a home where you are welcome, and a warm place to sleep – but in an instant the life you have known disappears. You are left alone in the world.
This is why Animal Aid exists.

Our work is saving lives. Last year we gave 5304 animals our love, expert care, and a first rate second chance. This takes a huge amount of work. This year our amazing staff and volunteers will provide more than 60,000 hours of shelter work.
From cleaning to cuddles, they do this with compassion and love in their hearts. Animal Aid’s expert veterinary professionals will deliver over 7,500 health checks and vaccinations; and perform 1,500 welfare surgeries. The commercial cost of this work is near to a million dollars, we shoulder this cost every single year. We cannot perform this life changing work without you.
Your donation mends hearts and saves lives.

Until they all find a home,
Harvey finds what he needs…
Poor Harvey was lost for 6 weeks in the expansive bushland around Orbost, he was tired, very skinny and very ready for the comfort of a loving home. The shelter team worked with Harvey, giving him time to decompress after his stressful ordeal. He was extremely underweight but we found him to have very few additional health concerns – a miracle!
When his new owner came to Animal Aid he saw Harvey in one of our yards and he fell in love. Trevor came into the shelter every single day, to spend time with Harvey until he was ready and available for adoption.
We are so proud to be able to fulfill Harvey’s wish, he is now a treasured member of the family.
Jasper’s second chance…
Jasper was adopted from Animal Aid in 2012 as a kitten, unfortunately he escaped and couldn’t be found. Unbeknown to his owners Jasper hadn’t gone far and had found a safe place under a church in Boronia. For 8 years Jasper was outdoors, subject to the elements and being sustained by locals who left him food. Eventually a kind person brought Jasper to Animal Aid, we were able to scan him for a microchip and assess his health. We found his original owners but they were no longer able to care for him – 8 years is a long time! During his vet checks we also discovered he had two significant but very old breaks in both of his hind legs. Poor Jasper hadn’t gotten the treatment for his injuries and was forced to suffer on his own. Jasper now has an army supporting him, vets, shelter staff, foster carers and volunteers.
We are very excited to let you know about the wonderful new home that we find him.
Ruby’s new lease on life …
Ruby’s story is one of perseverance, and the lengths Animal Aid will go to provide the interventions our animals need. Ruby was 9 years old when she arrived at Animal Aid. She presented with pain around her hips and joints, her belly was distended, and her ears and teeth were in a poor state. We noticed she was showing signs of nausea, weakness, lethargy and fever. It was clear Ruby would need our help getting well before she would be able to find a new home.
She worked her way quickly into all our hearts with her sweet nature, spunky personality and love of food. Ruby entered our foster program while we tested, monitored, did ultrasounds, looked at her endocrine system, treated her ears, and gave Ruby a dental. We explored all options; Ruby was diagnosed with pancreatitis, but even after her diagnosis it was some time before her levels were stabilised and she was healthy and happy! When it was time for her to be adopted it felt like fate, we are so happy with the family she has found. With determination and commitment Animal Aid finds new homes for dogs young and old. Your donation ensures dogs like Ruby the care they desperately need.
Gregory deserves life…
Gregory is one of the many FIV (Feline Immune Deficiency) positive cats we cared for and adopted this year. In it isn’t uncommon for shelters across Australia to deem these cats too much hard work and unadoptable, they don’t get given the chance of a future. At Animal Aid we invest the extra time and effort required to place these special cats into loving homes. It is often a long and costly process but seeing cats like Gregory flourish with fantastic new families proves we are doing vital work.
Your donation helps us be the shelter that cares.
